POC CULARIS PURE MTB Helmet

The CULARIS PURE helmet from POC offers you the proven protection for downhill and enduro and comes with a cleverly thought-out additional feature for the visor of the MTB helmet. You now have two options: More flexibility for better weather protection or more ventilation. The full-length interchangeable visor on the top of the helmet is connected to the helmet using a push-button system and covers the vents for better rain protection. If necessary, the visor can be removed to ensure full ventilation. The mountain bike helmet also impresses with the integrated MIPS EVOLVE impact protection system, which, in combination with its robust outer shell and the reinforced EPS inner shell, provides ideal protection. The lightweight trail helmet also scores points with the RECCO reflector, which gives you a good feeling when you're travelling off the beaten track. Extended protection zones and a breakaway visor perfectly round off the helmet’s features. This MTB helmet keeps you fully protected on technical and flowing mountain bike trails and offers you weather protection on top if required.

EPS:
The inner shell is made of EPS (expanded polystyrene). EPS is the most efficient material for absorbing shock and impact energies. EPS is extremely lightweight and maintains its properties in a wide temperature range.
The purpose of the inner EPS shell is to prevent or reduce a rider’s head injuries in the event of a fall. The shell absorbs the impact energy and is thereby itself compressed or even destroyed (comparable to an airbag in a car). This is why you should always replace a bike helmet with a new one after an impact.

WHAT IS MIPS?
MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) is a slip-plane system within the helmet. It is designed to rotate inside the helmet and thus slow down or reduce the impact energy acting on the brain, which helps reduce head injuries caused by rotational impacts.

WHY IS MIPS IMPORTANT?
When a head rotates quickly and comes to a sudden stop, the rotational acceleration may cause the brain tissue to experience high levels of strain. This stretching of the tissue caused by these motions may result in various types of brain injury. MIPS is designed with the intent to address rotational acceleration from impact.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
MIPS uses a slip-plane system that moves inside the helmet, mimicking the brain’s own protection system. This layer is designed to rotate inside the helmet with the intent to potentially slow down or reduce the amount of energy transferred to or from the head. Science tells us that if we can reduce the strains associated with rotational acceleration, we might reduce the risk and severity of brain injury.

RECCO:
The reflector sends and receives radar signals to help first responders locate your position. This allows for a faster rescue when crashing seriously in remote areas.

BREAKAWAY visor: 
To minimise injuries to the neck, POC has developed a patented breakaway visor that detaches from the helmet in the event of an impact, thus reducing the energy transferred to the neck in the event of an accident.
